This books illustrates the sayings and practices of legendary coach Bill Campbell. Coming from sports coaching, he has then become famous for coaching some Silicon Valley important CEO's, such as Schmidt (Google) or Jobs (Apple).
We will walk you through some parts of the book so to get inspired and perhaps apply some teachings in our day-to-day lives. At home. At work. Everywhere.
What's a coach first of all?
“An organizational psychologist who makes sure individual performances are subordinated to that of the team, someone who takes the responsibility of making people better without taking the credit for their accomplishments.”
“When you add in factors such as fast-moving industries, complex business models, sky high customer expectations and you put all these factors together…and a team of ambitious, opinionated smart people..well this creates tremendous tension in the machine. This is why you need a coach, to balance the tension.”
As the Dallas Cowboys coach, Tom Landry, once said: “a coach is someone who tells you what you don't want to hear, who has you see what you don't want to see, so you can be who you have always known you can be…"
In the end, a coach is an evangelist for courage, believing in people more than they believe in themselves…pushing them to be more courageous.
