“Build an envelope of trust is perhaps the most important currency in a relationship: be it friendship, romantic, familiar or professional” (Bill Campbell).
If a coach is great at establishing trust and, once established, he is great at honoring it, people then feel safe to be vulnerable.
Trust means you keep your words.
Trust means loyalty.
Trust means integrity.
Trust means discretion, honoring people’s privacy.
Trust doesn't mean you always agree…in fact it makes it easier to disagree with someone” The book “Trillion $ Coach” discusses the correlation between task conflicts (disagreements about decisions) and relationship conflicts (or emotional friction) in teams.
The conclusion is to build trust first. You need to create an environment with psychological safety where people can be themselves without fear, because there is trust.
“When you create teams where trust is a value and it’s honored all the way, you will have less relationship conflict, less emotional conflict, you will still find task conflict and disagreements about decisions but if the trust part is set and defended by the management, these teams will function better and have better outcomes.”
In the end, it’s all about People!
